The Story
In 2021, NY Steam Clean didn’t exist. No name, no logo, no online presence. Just an idea my husband and I decided to build from scratch.
Today it’s one of the top rated carpet and rug cleaning companies in NYC. This is the system that got it there.

Challenge
The goal was never traffic. The goal was leads that turned into profit.
Four pillars, built as one system:
- A high-converting website
- Strong local SEO and Google Maps visibility
- Google Ads on high-intent searches
- Messaging that builds trust immediately

Solution
Phase 1: Competitive Advantage
Before there was a website, there had to be a business worth finding.
NYC is full of carpet cleaners. Cheap, generic, interchangeable vans with the same pitch. We weren’t going to compete on price against a hundred of them.
- Identified what would make NY Steam Clean worth choosing over dozens of established competitors
- Defined the ideal customer: not “anyone with a dirty rug,” people who treat their carpets, rugs, and upholstery like the investment they are
- Built the offer and messaging around that difference before a single page got written
That positioning became the foundation for everything that followed.
Phase 2: Build Your Website
We didn’t have an existing reputation to lean on. The site had to earn trust with zero history behind it.
- Fast, mobile-first build optimized for conversions
- Dedicated service pages: carpet cleaning, rug pickup and in-plant cleaning, upholstery and mattress cleaning, drape cleaning, water damage restoration
- Click-to-call and booking CTAs throughout
- Structured to handle high-intent traffic, not just look nice.
Local SEO & Google Business Profile

- Google Business Profile created and fully optimized from day one
- Services and content structured around how NYC customers actually search
- Local SEO fundamentals supporting both Maps and organic results
- Consistent business info plus a review growth strategy
This is what put NY Steam Clean in front of people searching with intent to book, not just browse.
Google Ads (Search)

- Search campaigns targeting service-specific, high-intent keywords
- Traffic sent to service-relevant landing pages, not a generic homepage
- Conversion tracking built in from launch
Results:
- ~25% conversion rate on Google Search
- Industry average: ~4%
A company with no name four years ago now converts search traffic at six times the industry average.
Paid Social (Facebook Ads)
- Localized, service-driven campaigns
- Built around urgency, trust, and real cleaning problems people actually have
Results:
- Cost per conversion as low as $0.21
- High lead volume at minimal cost, strong for top-of-funnel growth
Overall Results
- Consistent inbound leads from Google Search, Maps, and paid ads
- 22 to 25% conversion rate on Google Ads vs ~4% industry average
- Facebook cost per conversion as low as $0.21 during scale periods
- 3X business growth in one year
- Return on ad spend consistently 3.5 to 4:1
The business grew with control and predictability. Not guesswork.
Why this worked
This wasn’t about chasing tactics.
It worked because:
Website, local SEO, and ads were built as one system
Traffic was sent to pages designed to convert
High-intent searches were prioritized over cheap clicks
Decisions were made based on data, not assumptions
NY Steam Clean started with nothing but a service and a market full of competitors.
By building the right foundation, combining local SEO with Google Ads, and focusing relentlessly on conversions, it grew into a profitable, recognizable NYC service business.
This is what happens when digital marketing is treated like a system, not a gamble.
